.: December 12, 2002.: March 18, 2003.: June 27, 2003Mode(s)Clock Tower 3 is a video game co-produced by and for the. Released in 2002, it is the fourth installment in the series, and the first and only video game directed by Japanese film director. The plot and characters have very little relation with the previous Clock Tower games. The story follows 14-year-old Alyssa Hamilton who is part of a family lineage of female warriors who travel through time to defeat evil spirits. Alyssa travels from her time in 2003 London to the 1940s and 1960s in order to defeat these 'Entities' and bring peace to troubled souls. As opposed to the gameplay used in the previous games, Clock Tower 3 is the first game in the series to incorporate direct control over the protagonist.
Alyssa is given no weapon for the majority of the game, and must evade and hide from her pursuers. These enemies, known as 'Subordinates', are fought at the end of each level, during which Alyssa is armed with a longbow. The game received mixed reviews and was a commercial failure, selling considerably less than anticipated. The presentation, writing, and graphics were positively received, with many critics praising the and Fukasaku's direction. However, the gameplay was criticized for its repetitive, and the game itself was felt to be too short.
Clock Tower 3 has more constant fear of ambushing, and surprise attacks to make you scream and jump out of your chair. Besides that, there's the extremely disturbing scenes of Sledgehammer killing a little girl, and Corroder giving a man and his mother an 'acid bath.' The worst part is that Sledgehammer and Corroder were based on actual serial killers who used those actual MOs (Corroder even.
Contents.Gameplay Clock Tower 3 is a game played from a camera perspective in which players control 14-year-old school girl Alyssa Hamilton. Clock Tower 3 is the first game in the series to incorporate direct control over the protagonist, as opposed to the gameplay used in the previous games.
Summary: Book of Demons is a Hack & Slash Deck-building hybrid in which YOU decide the length of quests. Wield magic cards instead of weapons and slay the armies of darkness in the dungeons below the Old Cathedral. Save the terror-stricken Paperverse from the clutches of the Archdemon himself. Book of Demons is certainly pleasing, and the throwback gameplay is welcomed. With the range of difficulty levels, the use of cards to built a character's skill sets, and the charming visual elements, this should serve as a nice intro to the dungeon crawling genre or provide a retro challenge to those hunting for a very good hack 'n slash adventure. Demonology bible. While Book of Demons by no means falls into this category, its gameplay can, at times, feel that way. The hero traverses each floor of the dungeon along a set path, spurred into movement via a mouse click, and moving until reaching an intersection of paths, requiring a further click to continue.
To progress through the game, the player must find items to unlock new areas, solve puzzles, and flee and hide from enemies ('Subordinates'). Eventually, each Subordinate must be defeated in battle. Throughout each level, the player also encounters the spirits of innocent people slain by the Subordinates. These spirits will attack Alyssa if she approaches them.
In order to pacify them, an item of sentimental value must be found and returned to the spirit's corpse.Alyssa is given no weaponry during the majority of the game, other than a limited supply of, which can be used to temporarily stun pursuing Subordinates. Within each level, the Subordinate can appear in any location after a set period of time, but also randomly or if Alyssa makes noise. They also appear in certain set locations.
When one appears, it immediately begins to chase Alyssa, attempting to kill her. The player must either hide from or evade it. Evasion can only be accomplished in certain places, and each evasion point can only be used once. Using an evasion point does not kill the Subordinate, but instead renders them unconscious for a set amount of time. The primary means of eluding one, however, is by hiding. There are multiple hiding points throughout each level, and each one can be used multiple times. However, hiding places are ineffective if the Subordinate sees Alyssa enter them.
Alyssa stumbles as she runs away from Sledgehammer in 'Panic mode'.Throughout most of the game, Alyssa has a 'Panic Meter' visible on screen. If she is scared by a Subordinate, attacked by a spirit or simply frightened by her surroundings, the meter will begin to rise.
If it fills, she enters 'Panic mode'. In this state, the screen starts flashing, Alyssa becomes difficult to control and begins stumbling and falling over.
She is also unable to use holy water and cannot enter hiding spots. After a few seconds, she will momentarily freeze, covering her ears. Panic mode only lasts for a certain amount of time, and its duration can be reduced by using 'Lavender water'. However, if she is hit by a Subordinate while in Panic Mode, she will die instantly. After the majority of each level has played out, Alyssa must confront the Subordinate who has been chasing her. At this point, her holy water bottle transforms into a, allowing her to fight back. Each battle is confined to a single area, and both Alyssa and the Subordinate have onscreen.
During the fight, Alyssa must dodge attacks while firing arrows. In order to inflict any real damage, she must power-up her attacks. However, while powering-up, Alyssa cannot move or re-adjust her aim. This leaves her vulnerable to attacks, and makes it possible for her enemy to move out of her line of sight. A fully powered-up shot will tether the Subordinate to the ground. If it is transfixed with multiple powered-up shots, Alyssa can perform a highly damaging 'Super attack', killing or severely wounding it. Plot The story of Clock Tower 3 is set in London in 2003.
Alyssa Hamilton is a 14-year-old girl who has been living at a for three years. Her mother, Nancy, sent her there after her grandfather, Dick, disappeared. The game begins with Alyssa receiving a letter from her mother telling her to go into hiding until after her fifteenth birthday.
Alarmed, Alyssa decides to go against her mother's wishes and return home. However, when she arrives at the in which they live, her mother is absent, and the only person there is a man called 'The Dark Gentleman'. Determined to find her mother, Alyssa explores her mother's room. Suddenly, 's begins to play with no apparent source, and Alyssa is transported back in time to the streets of London during. She enters a tailor shop where she witnesses the murder of a young girl by a man wielding a. Eventually, Alyssa is able to piece together what happened: May Norton was killed on 1942 by Sledgehammer, a who went on a killing spree before being caught and executed.
Alyssa comes to realise that she must free May's spirit, which is trapped on Earth, by giving her her father's pocket watch. On her way to do so, she is confronted by Sledgehammer, whom she destroys. She then gives the watch to May's spirit, reuniting her with her father. At that moment, Alyssa faints and wakes up back in the boarding house. She explores the house further with her friend, Dennis Owen, and learns more about her past: the girls in her family are known as 'Rooders', young women with supernatural powers.
Rooders are the sworn enemies of 'Entities', beings which can infect innocent humans and drive them to acts of murder, at which point the human becomes a 'Subordinate'. Rooder powers peak at the age of fifteen, and wane afterward, disappearing completely by the age of twenty.
Alyssa fights Corroder in. She has tethered him twice, but three tethers are necessary to use the Super Attack.Alyssa then travels to the 1960s, where she enters the house of Dorothy Rand, a blind elderly woman and her son, Albert, and sees them murdered by a man known as Corroder, who throws them into a vat of acid.
Alyssa destroys Corroder, and returns a lost shawl to Dorothy's spirit, freeing both herself and Albert. She then returns to the present, where The Dark Gentleman congratulates her on killing two Subordinates. He sends her to the top of a massive clock tower where he tells her that when her fifteenth birthday arrives they will be united for eternity.
He also tells her that her mother is dead. When she refuses to believe him, he flings her from the tower. Regaining consciousness in a sewer system, she is forced to confront another Subordinate, Chopper.
She defeats him, but fails to kill him and is sent to a graveyard. She then learns of the 'Ritual of Engagement'; if a human wishes to become an Entity, they must remove the heart of a Rooder to whom they are related on her fifteenth birthday and drink her blood. Eventually, Alyssa fights Chopper again and is able to destroy him.Dennis arrives, and he and Alyssa find their way to an abandoned hospital where they encounter Scissorman and Scissorwoman, who kidnap Dennis. Alyssa is then transported to a castle, where she sees Dick reciting a strange incantation. She learns Dick knew of the Ritual of Engagement, and had discovered that Lord Burroughs, the owner of the castle and from whom he is descended, also knew of the ritual. She then sees an incident from the past of Dick asking for Burroughs' help to become an Entity, inviting Burroughs to enter his body and for them to complete the Ritual together.
Burroughs' spirit takes possession of Dick, turning into The Dark Gentleman. Meanwhile, Alyssa is able to rescue Dennis from the twins, killing them in the process. The Dark Gentleman then tells Alyssa if she wants to save Nancy's soul, she must come to the top of the tower. There, The Dark Gentlemen turns into Lord Burroughs and begins the Ritual. However, Dennis distracts Burroughs, allowing Alyssa to fight back.
Nancy's spirit transfers what is left of her own Rooder power into Alyssa, giving her the strength to destroy Burroughs. After she defeats him, she reunites with her mother's spirit. The tower then collapses. Alyssa awakens in a field, where she sees Dennis. She runs to him and hugs him as she says 'Mum.we did it. We did it, Mum.'

At the time of the announcement, the game was still in the casting phase; over two hundred actresses had auditioned for the of Alyssa. The game was first shown at in May 2002, where a non-playable demo was on show at the Capcom booth. Release In November, Capcom announced the game would be released in Japan on December 12. Commercially, the game was a failure.
Capcom had projected sales of at least 450,000, but the game fell considerably short of that number. 's Alan Pavlacka felt the script was the game's strongest point, and wrote that the 'excellent cinema scenes' and 'distinct visual style' also contributed to the high quality presentation. The graphics and atmosphere were also well received. 's Jeremy Dunham noted that ' Clock Tower 3 successfully captures the dirty, musty look of England's serial killer underworld.it is straight out of a novel.' The cutscene direction from was positively noted, with 's Kristan Reed calling the cutscenes 'exceptionally well-realised.' The camerawork and scariness of the game were both lauded and criticized. While the presentation was received positively, the gameplay received criticism from multiple reviews.
More specifically, the boss fights and repetitive hiding and chasing gameplay were cited as weak. 's Brad Shoemaker argued the cinematic portions were underpinned by the gameplay, believing that players would more likely want to finish the game for its storyline than the fun they'll have playing it.
's AA White stated ' Clock Tower 3 is ultimately one of those games whose cinemas are more interesting than the actual gameplay and from a gamer's standpoint, that's never a good thing.' Critics also agreed that the game felt too short. Retrieved April 12, 2015.

News Article B: 10 September 1941 - Robert Morris, 32, the man known as the Hammer Killer, has been hanged. Rumors regarding Morris' death are widespread. One witness reported: 'He was hanging for a very long time, pulling on the straps and making unearthly noises, and blood was oozing through the black cap. The stench was terrible-some witnesses fainted and were carried out.' Morris' first victim was Tony Flanagan, 35, a fellow employee at the stonecutting factory. On 6 June 1940, Morris suddenly struck Flanagan on the head with a hammer, killing him instantly.
All five workers present were killed in the same manner. Morris disappeared thereafter. A string of similar crimes occurred until the time of Morris's arrest on 6th March in Arleton,. Book of Entities 1: 'Entities' have existed in the human realm since. These beings have been known to possess innocent humans, imbuing them with utter ruthlessness and cruelty and often driving the possessed to vicious acts of murder. In such cases, executing the murderer does not break the circle of evil-the possessed is resurrected to continue its bloodthirsty mission. Those who are thus controlled by Entities are known as 'Subordinates'. When a Subordinate kills a human, they take nourishment from the victim's soul, and their power grows.
Subordinates may acquire an infinite amount of power in this manner. It follows, then, that Subordinates are sustained by human misery and suffering.
Only certain humans are equipped to fight Entities and their Subordinates: the 'Rooders'. Rooders, who are always young women in their teens, have been battling against these shadowy enemies for hundreds of years. Clock Tower 3. Level/area: Chapter 2. Dick's Notes 1: 2nd February, 1978 - The Rooders who battle the Entities are scattered all over Europe. We, the Hamiltons, are also of Rooder stock; of this lineage I am proud.
The Rooder blood is passed down to females; my wife, Francesca, was a Rooder. 13th August, 1984 - The Rooder powers first appear in a young woman's early teens, and peak at age fifteen. The powers then gradually diminish, usually disappearing entirely by the age of twenty. Clock Tower 3. Level/area: Chapter 2. News Article C: Family Tragedy!
Mother & Son In Acid Bath Shocker. 23 November 1963., - Two decomposed corpses were found in a house in Russell Street on Tuesday. The victims were Dorothy Rand, 65, and her toy-maker son, Albert Rand, 34. They were found in a drum filled with acid in the garage adjoining their house. Police are seeking the whereabouts of a young man who had been staying with the Rands a few days before the murder. Claiming to be a distant relative of Mrs.
Rand, he arrived suddenly in the area and has since disappeared. Clock Tower 3. Scene: The Clock Tower. The Dark Gentleman: In two hours, the clock will strike midnight and your fifteenth birthday will arrive. When that happens, you and I will become one, and together we will obtain eternal life.
Clock Tower 3. Scene: The Ritual of Engagement. The Dark Gentleman: If thy true desire is to become an Entity, there is no purer path than this: Remove the heart of a fifteen-year-old Rooder of the same bloodline, and before the beat of her heart is stilled, drink deeply of her blood. Thus will the Ritual of Engagement be completed and the dark power of the Entity shall be thine. Clock Tower 3. Level/area: Chapter 4. Dick's Notes 3: I have stumbled across an incredible document.
An account of a ceremony called 'The Ritual of Engagement'! It is written that by obtaining the heart of a Rooder on her 15th birthday and drinking her blood, a person can be transformed into an Entity, and receive the gift of immortality. I am disgusted by the nature of this ritual, of course.
But at the same time, there is a part of me that cannot resist its allure. If I tore out Alyssa's heart with these hands and partook of her blood, I could be joined with her for all eternity. Yet another amazing discovery: the 'Legend of Lord Burroughs'.
In the document is a mysterious triangular crest. It is said that the one who is able to decipher the secrets of the crest will be able to become an Entity. I suspect that too is related to the Ritual of Engagement.
The answer is hiding out there, somewhere. Szczepaniak, John (November 2015).

Heroine of the game, she's a Rooder, a member of a mystical clan with the power of fighting evil entities and their incarnations, the 'Subordinates'. She can use artifacts and summon a magical bow. Not to be confused with Alyssa Hale of the previous game.
A Birthday, Not a Break: Later parts of the game occur on her birthday.
Action Survivor: Alyssa Hamilton is the least helpless of all the Clock Tower protagonists, as she can confront the entities in proper boss fights.
Archer Archetype: Her weapon is a magical bow, which only becomes available during boss battles.
Daddy's Girl: A dark example. Ever since her father died, Alyssa's seen Dick as a father figure. His diary entries are full of admiration for Alyssa.. As you continue it gets more chilling as he reveals his plans.
Girlish Pigtails: When she was young.
Glass Cannon: Alyssa can wield a bow well, but when enemies come close, she's in big trouble.
Holy Burns Evil: Her trusty holy water.
Holy Hand Grenade: Her super move.
Et Tu, Brute?: Quite a jarring example, In regards to Dick's dark diary entriesnote . Alyssa turns a blind eye on them. That is until she found out he killed her father, and would undoubtedly mutilate her heart. Although she's still in denial until she reaches the top of the clock tower.
Extraordinarily Empowered Girl: She's a vulnerable but strong willed little girl with magic powers.
Fiery Redhead: Though usually composed (when not frightened), Alyssa has displayed a temper regarding Dennis or her grandfather.
Heroes Want Redheads: Towards Dennis. Maybe.
Ignorant of the Call: Even though Nancy left Alyssa notes explaining to her how to use her items, she forgot to mention why she needs those items and what Rooders are. To much of Alyssa's dismay, she has no idea why a Serial Killer is chasing her. Alyssa only finds out about the latter through her Grandfather's notes.
Laser Blade: Sorta; After losing her bow, her clover necklace turns into an energy sword.
Light Is Good: Her Rooder powers are light based magic that can damage entities.
Magical Girl Warrior: Her mission as a Rooder is to defeat the evil Subordinates and free the innocent souls from their clutches.
Meaningful Name: Alyssa means, to cure rabies i.e madness; or to be against madness.
Puberty Superpower: Her Rooder powers greatly manifest at the age of fifteen.
Summon to Hand: She can summon her bow, once she's about to hand over a sentimental item.. supposedly.
Targeted Human Sacrifice: Her grandfather wants her heart to become an entity.
Tsundere: Towards Dennis.
Witch Species: The Rooders are a matriarchal family. Their powers pass on from mother to daughter.

Dennis Owen
Alyssa's hyperactive friend.
Badass Normal: While he doesn't have any powers, he's ultimately the one who kills Scissorman and manages to distract Burroughs by lunging at him during the final confrontation.
Big Damn Heroes: Manages to pull this when Ralph has Alyssa cornered and also at the very end.
Childhood Friends: With Alyssa.
Declaration of Protection: It's not the heroic type, unlike most examples. He comforts Alyssa with this. So far, he's kept his word.
Distressed Dude: For a while, near the end.
Implied Love Interest: To Alyssa.
Keet: His Establishing Character Moment and first dialogue lines with Alyssa before he gets dragged into everything reveals him as this.
Nice Guy: He's helpful and thoughtful towards Alyssa, and even willing to sacrifice himself to let her escape.
Nancy Hamilton
Alyssa's mother and a former Rooder. She is heard at the start of the game narrating while Alyssa is reading her letter, warning her to go hide until her fifteenth birthday has passed.
Action Mom: Who used to be Action Girl.
Dead All Along: She's already dead by the time Alyssa gets home.
Heroic Sacrifice: She died trying to protect her daughter.
Hero of Another Story: Nancy's disappearance as well as her time as a Rooder is explained in the drama CD. She's actually the heroine of it.
Mama Bear: She defied her father to protect her daughter, At the cost of her life.
Our Ghosts Are Different: Reasons 2, 7, and 13.
Dick Hamilton
Alyssa's beloved grandfather who went missing three years prior to the beginning of the game. While seemingly loving and protective of Alyssa, as well as inadvertently helpful with his various books on the Rooder history guiding her along, there is a dark secret to him that Alyssa is initially unaware of..

Sledgehammer/Robert Morris
The first Subordinate met by Alyssa in a ruined English town, where he murders a little girl's ghost waiting for her father. He's a huge, massive brute wielding a large hammer.
Drop the Hammer: His weapon. On Hard mode, he'll wield a spiked mace instead.
Establishing Character Moment: Tormenting a little girl, smacking her around with a huge hammer, and then gloating about it in front of the heroine.
The Man They Couldn't Hang: In his backstory. He was sentenced to death by hanging, until a witness saw in horror he was still alive and promptly fainted, only to be carried away by the guards afterwards. He dies eventually though.
Malevolent Masked Man: He wears an executioner's mask.
Powered by a Forsaken Child: His main power source is the suffering of a little girl.
Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Implied. Unlike most of the Subordinates, Sledgehammer was seemingly an average man before his possession as his sudden acts of violence baffled everyone who knew him.
Corroder/John Haigh
The second subordinate, who's haunting the ghosts of two blind people, mother and son. Carries around an acid-spewing device mounted on his back.
Historical Domain Character: He's a fictionalized depiction of John George Haigh, though his stage is set two decades after the real Haigh was active/executed.
Improbable Weapon User: A sort of acid tank on his back. On Hard, the nozzle becomes a spray bottle.
Karmic Death: His death by falling into a vat of sulphuric acid, which he used to dispose of his victims. The news report about it lampshades this.
Kick the Dog: What he does to poor Albert and Dorothy.
Kill It with Fire: Holy water seems to have a burning effect on him, as he screams about it being hot.
Malevolent Masked Man: He wears a gas mask.
Chopper/Harold Powell
The third subordinate and one of the strongest. Stalks Alyssa through a series of caverns, and later in his personal dimension, before getting finally vanquished for good. True to his name, he carries around a couple of axes.
An Axe to Grind: On Hard mode, they'll turn into Sinister Scythe.
Bullying a Dragon: What he suffered in his human life, which caused him to turn into a monster who kills people.
The Dragon: He's the most dangerous Subordinate, and he's fought twice.
Hero Killer: He was the one who killed Nancy.
Kick the Dog: Taunted Alyssa by showing her a flashback of her father's death at the hands of her grandfather. Does this again later when he shows her the graveyard of all the Rooder's he killed, including her mother.
Love Makes You Evil: He fell in love with an innkeeper's daughter, but was rejected due to his deformity. It was the last straw, and he killed her in retaliation.
Monochromatic Eyes: They're pure white.
No-Sell: The only Subordinate strong enough to shrug off a full-powered Rooder Finishing Move, and he's able to do it without even flinching.
Tattooed Crook: His markings could be this or Body Paint.
Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: His backstory explains that years of torment and abuse over his deformity when he was human drove him to become violent and vengeful.
Younger Than They Look: If his backstory is any indication, he died at the age of 19, making him the youngest in the group. However, since he died in 1655, he's technically also the oldest Subordinate.
Scissortwins/Ralph and Jemima
Two murderous psycho siblings working for the Dark Gentleman, met in a spectral hospital and later in Burroughs Castle. Both of them wield oversized scissor blades. They kidnap Dennis and try to murder him.
Brother–Sister Team: Of the villainous variety.
Dark Action Girl: Scissorwoman
The Dark Chick: Both of them, though they're also Co-Dragons to the Dark Gentleman.
Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: They both have snow-white skin and black hair.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones: They genuinely love each other, as Ralph has a breakdown when Jemima is killed.
Giggling Villain: Do their fair share of laughing, even in death.
Glass Cannon: Scissorwoman has very little health considering how late in the game you fight her, but she's very agile and makes heavy use of Teleport Spam. Scissorman is more similar to the other Subordinates in his boss fight.
Good Scars, Evil Scars: Scissorwoman has plenty of scarring on her body.
Hoist by His Own Petard: Scissorman meets his end via the bladed pendulum he planned on using on Dennis. Guess who pulls the lever after Alyssa defeats him?
Nonstandard Character Design: They look more like they belong in Soul Calibur than in a horror game.
Tag Team Twins: Averted. Though they technically work together, they stalk and battle Alyssa separately.
Token Minority: The only subordinates who came from the orient.
Torture Technician: During their time working for Lord Burroughs.
Twincest: Implied.
Villainous Breakdown: Scissorman is hit with this hard after his sister dies.

Lord Burroughs
Click here for his Dark Gentleman disguise
Also known as 'The Dark Gentleman', he's the main villain behind the game. An abusive British Lord from medieval times who tormented his subjects out of a superioty complex and pleasure. One day, his precious daughter dies in a accident and goes insane out of grief, eventually his subjects attack his castle and he dies after failing into the gears of his castle's clock tower.
Is eventually revealed that his daughter was a Rooder and he planned to sacrifice her to obtain Godhood, and corrupted and eventually took over the body of Alyssa's grandfather, Dick Hamilton (who is a descendant of his) to complete his long-desired ascension to Godhood by sacrificing Alyssa in a dark ritual.
BFS: His weapon.
Big Bad: He's behind everything that happens to Alyssa in the game. His end goal is to marry Alyssa in a dark ritual to become an Entity, by cutting out her heart and drinking its blood.
Damage-Sponge Boss: Lord Burroughs has tons of health compared to any other boss in the game; combined with the fact you yourself can't heal in the middle of a boss fight, and fighting him is very much a matter of chipping away at his health while outlasting his attacks and making sure not to take too much damage.
Death by Irony: Lord Burroughs met his demise by falling down the clock tower, Dick as Lord Burroughs meets the same fate. Also a Shout-Out to how Bobby died in First Fear.
Evil Is Hammy: Thanks to his deep voice.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Lord Burroughs was said to have loved his daughter Annabelle deeply, and her death left him absolutely devastated. Dick also clearly loves Alyssa.. perhaps too much. Subverted in that he seems to think nothing of having Nancy, his daughter, killed for 'betraying' him.
Fat Bastard: Subverted.
Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: In courtesy of Alyssa's energy sword.
Kick the Dog: He had his daughter Nancy killed for interfering with his plan to sacrifice Alyssa, and again a second time in front of Alyssa's eyes.
Long-Range Fighter: Oddly enough.
The Man Behind the Monsters: After merging with the evil spirit of Darcy Burroughs and becoming the 'Dark Gentleman', Dick is effectively the one commanding the Subordinates.
Meaningful Name: It's hard to pick between this, Punny Name and Unfortunate Name, as it's meaningful, and unfortunate at the same time, yet very apt. Whether it's intentional or not, he lives up to his name.
It gets better, his former last name is revealed to be Brown. Now sink that in..
Mirror Boss: Lord Burroughs has the same fighting style as Alyssa, only throwing energy balls instead of using a bow, and his energy balls have the exact same tethering effect as Alyssa's Rooder arrows. He even has a super move similar to Alyssa's if he manages to hit her with 3 tethers, just like Alyssa can do to Subordinates.
